“All about Hanji Art” exhibition held

Exhibition opening: December 10, 2021 (Fri) 16:00-20:00

Exhibition period: December 11, 2021 (Sat) - February 27, 2022 (Sun)

Venue: Carlo Bilotti Museum, Viale Fiorello La Guardia 6

At the 2021 All About Hanji Art Exhibition, various works that encompass both tradition and modernity, such as traditional Korean paper, hanji crafts, various contemporary artworks using hanji as a medium, media art projected on hanji works, and Korean paper installations will be exhibited. It is presented to people from all over the world visiting Rome.

50 artists compete with Hanji paper made at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome, the only place in Europe where it is produced. Not only contemporary works of art in paper, but also sculptures and multimedia installations. 50 artists competed with the Korean Hanji paper, also known as the thousand years paper for its great resistance and held, in CartaCoreana, the exhibition project created by the Korean Cultural Institute and the Academy of Fine Arts that will be exhibited at the Carlo Museum Villa Borghese barrels from 10 December 2021 to 27 February 2022.

An exhibition of Korean paper installations that impress people with just a single sheet of Korean paper that contains the hands of a craftsman a hundred times.

Contemporary Sculpture

The works of contemporary Hanji artists are presented, showing the dense world of work through various techniques rather than simply being used as a base material. Various techniques such as casting technique, burning technique, cutting technique, collage, tearing, installation, etc. will be exhibited to show the artist's philosophy and the world of work as it is.

Part 1; Moon jar, embracing the beauty of Korea

The moon jar is so named because its snow-white background and round shape resemble a full moon. The white porcelain moon jars of the Joseon Dynasty can be said to be one of the artworks that best express Korean beauty and emotion.

It is composed of works by various craftsmen that show the essence of hanji crafts represented by the color printing technique, the jisung technique, and the jiho technique.

Part 2; box, embracing customs

The box made of Korean paper, which contains the life and spirit of Koreans, is an exhibition that can show the unique beauty of Korea. In particular, the gujeol board, the box of five matches, and the box of color threads are unique pieces that were used only in Korea and are interpreted in a modern way.

Part 3; Hanji clothes Navillera

Various clothes made by cutting Korean paper into thin strips and twisting it into a paper string (jiseung technique), tapping Korean paper layer by layer to make it look like leather (zoom technique), and colored paper technique, as well as headgears, hats, and costumes for kings and queens will be showcased. In particular, the exhibited works will surprise the viewer as they have been used in real life or have been reinterpreted in a modern way.

The Korean Cultural Center in Italy is promoting various performance projects to make it easier to spread Korean culture and art, and is also conducting performances online (Korean Cultural Center Youtube). In this regard, the video (contents) of the performance is open to the public as follows, so please participate actively. A small fee is paid for performance videos (contents) selected through screening.

Purpose

  • Spread awareness of Korean cultural and artistic performances by posting performance videos (contents) (5-10 minutes) to the Korean populace in Italy through the YouTube channel of the Korean Cultural Center in Italy
  • Discovering and introducing Korean artists

Eligibility

  • Korean artists (cooperation with foreign artists is possible)
  • Music/Dance major
  • Professional performers and troupes
  • Non-verbal performance performer

2021.12.27 ~ 2021.01.17

How to apply

  • Attach performance video URL or performance video file (*It is also possible to open a public performance video that has not been newly filmed)
  • A form attached to the application form is required.
  • Video and application file name: group name_performance name

Application

  • Always posted on the YouTube channel of the Korean Cultural Center in Italy
  • Video (content) provision fee (notice separately)

Selection process

  • Submission of application form and performance video > Judging > Notification of judging results (individual contact)
  • Submit a clean copy of the performer's profile, performance details, and video within 2 weeks of notification of the screening result

Notice

  • Selection of videos (contents) that are creative or have no copyright violations
  • The purpose of this contest is to introduce Korean performances and culture to locals, so no group or work introduction video will be selected.
  • Videos that are inappropriate for the propagation of a specific religion, performances for political purposes, or other cultural centers' operating purposes will not be selected.
