PARK DAE SUNG <眞景時代: THE ETERNAL>

The Korean Cultural Center in Germany is presenting the solo exhibition from March 26 to May 27:

“眞景時代: THE ETERNAL (TRUE-VIEW ERA: THE ETERNAL)” BY ARTIST PARK DAE SUNG.

The exhibition, which will be shown during Berlin Gallery Weekend 2022 (April 29-May 1), takes us through Park's art world, which continues the existence of Korean painting. It provides an insight into Korean "Ink Landscape Painting" and was designed to create a place where Korean art can be experienced in an impressive way.

The patron and former chairman of the Samsung Group, Lee Kun-hee († 2020), has bought many of the artist's works and also promoted him abroad. Park is also held in high esteem by the younger generation, as illustrated not least by the visit to the exhibition by rapper RM from the K-pop band BTS.

The exhibition, which will be shown in Germany in the run-up to a major US tour this year and next, was organized in cooperation with the Seoul art gallery Gana Art.

The vernissage will take place on Friday, March 25 at 6:00 p.m. in the premises of the Korean Cultural Center. The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Dr. CHO Hyun Ock, will open the exhibition.

"Sosan" Park Dae Sung (b. 1945) first attracted the attention of the art world when he won the grand prize of the 2nd Joongang Art Prize for <Sangrim> in 1979. Since then he has had numerous solo and guest exhibitions in Korea and abroad, at which he presented his new work, including an exhibition by invitation at Galerie Farina in Cologne in 1987.

Sosan has been brush-in-hand since the age of five and is now credited with modernizing Korean painting by transitioning from traditional landscape painting to what is known as Uigyeong landscape painting, an art form he developed over the 70 years of his career with a unique style and point of view.

He has also recently experimented with still lifes, applying a unique calligraphy style, and despite his age continues to explore various artistic approaches to landscapes.

The continuous basis of Sosan's lifelong painting is his unshakeable self-discipline and perseverance, which allows him to invest "25 hours a day" in painting. The resulting masterpieces make it what it is today.
